     Ferrofluid, also known as magnetic liquid, ferrofluid (ferrofluid, ferrum Latin word "iron" and "fluid") or ferrofluid, is a new type of functional material, which has both liquid fluidity and Magnetic properties of solid magnetic materials.

Magnetic fluid consists of nano magnetic particles, base fluid and surfactant. Magnetic fluids often use Fe, Ni, Co, etc. as magnetic particles; use water, organic solvents, oil, etc. as base fluids; and use oleic acid as an active agent to prevent magnetic particles from agglomerating.

The fluid has no magnetic attraction when it is static, and it shows magnetism when an external magnetic field is applied. The magnetic fluid produced with nanometer metal and alloy powder has excellent performance, and can be widely used in various harsh conditions of magnetic fluid sealing, shock absorption, medical equipment, sound adjustment, light display, magnetic fluid beneficiation and other fields.

The U.S. Air Force introduced a radar absorbing material (RAM) made of both ferrofluid and non-magnetic substances as a paint. This material reduces the radar cross section of the aircraft by reducing the reflection of electromagnetic waves.
